摘要:Humanprotectionat the workplace aims atknowing andremove all thesituations thatcan occurin thework, which could lead toaccidentsand occupational diseases. This study assess the occupational exposureto lead and dust forworkers from differentworkplaces in a companyproducingcar batteries.Workplace lead(Pb)concentration (39 measurements) wasperformed byX-rayfluorescencespectrometry.Biomarkers of exposure and effects have been performed for 278workers, represented byblood lead level(GF-AAS)urinary delta-amino levulinic acid(¦¤ALA)(standard regular method). The results ofworkplace air measurementspointed outhigh lead concentrations in some working areas, while the mean concentration oftotaldustdid not exceedthe maximum allowable concentration. The blood lead level (BPb)variedbetween 5.84ug dL-1and 65ug dL-1, with an averageof 33.7ug dL-1(below workplace acceptable limit ¨C40 ug dL-1. Urinary ¦¤ALAranged from 1.83mgL-1to 50.32mgL-1withan averagevalue of 8.7mgL-1.The results of thisstudyshowed thatfor about2/3oftheinvestigated workers, the occupational exposure toinorganic leadand total dust,in car batteryindustry, iswithin normal biologicaltolerablelimitforlead. There isstillpossibility oftoxic effectsuponsusceptible individuals, especially in case of failure to complygoodworkplacepracticesor technical andorganizationalmeasureswhich would decrease exposure and associated health risks
