摘要:The Session Initiation Protocol is an application level signalling protocol used for locating end users, establishing, modifying and closing the multimedia sessions between two or more users. It enables features like inviting new participants to existing sessions, providing facility to add or remove media from the session. With the evolution of telecommunication networks, this protocol has been adopted as the basis for IP-Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks. Internet Telephony is seeing rapid growth in recent times and Session Initiation Protocol is most widely used for signalling purpose. However, existing networks are not well equipped to handle overload conditions. This paper discusses the behaviour and controlling of overload conditions in SIP networks with redirect networks in detail and proposes a solution to control overload situation while using redirect servers. Simulation studies have revealed that more attention needs to be given to support and implement standardized overload control techniques to redirect servers. Different approaches to implement a standardized way of controlling overload while using redirect servers in SIP signalling networks is discussed
