摘要：A case of listeriosis was notified on 20 September 1996 fora patient with a haematological disease. Over the follow-ing 48 hours four further cases were reported, all inpatients with immunosuppression associated withchronic disease. Listeria monocytogenes O1 was isolatedfrom the blood of all cases. One case died.Three of the five cases were inpatients at an Adelaidehospital. A fourth attended the outpatients department ofthe same hospital. Dietary histories showed that the threeinpatients had consumed chicken sandwiches in the hos-pital, and all patients had eaten chicken, prior to theirillness. The sandwiches were prepared in the hospital withdiced chicken obtained from a commercial supplier.
