  • 摘要:Professionaldoctorateprogrammesaredesignedtoproduceresearchingprofessionals:professionalswhoaretrulyreflectiveintheirpractice;canaddressprofessionaljudgmentsinacriticalandinformedway;andcanbringnewinsightstotheirprofessionthroughconsiderationoffreshperspectives,newideas,andalternativeapproaches.Theyareencouragedtoviewtheirprofessionthrougha'freshlens'.However,theverynatureofbeinganestablishedprofessionalmeansthatoftenindividualsareblinkeredtothesealternativeperspectivesbytheestablishednorms,language,behavioursandcultureoftheirowncommunityofpractice.Aninabilitytobeabletoseedifferentwaysofdoingthingscanbedetrimentaltoprofessionallearningandtothegrowingtrendofinterprofessionalworking.Theunfreezingofestablishedwaysofprofessionalthinkinginordertoopenmindstodifferentideascanbeaverydifficultchallengeforeducators,especiallyastheestablishedpracticesofteachingandassessmenthavebeendesignedlargelytoreinforcedisciplineorprofessional -specificknowledgeandbehaviours.Thispaperconsidershowalternativeapproachescanbeusedtoencourageprofessionaldoctoratecandidatestothinkdifferently,usingtheparticulartechniqueofstorytellingtodemonstratehowanestablishedprofessionalmanagerwasabletoachieveabetterunderstandingofhisownprofessionalworldthroughdevelopmentofempathywithapartnerprofessional.
