  • 摘要:Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WIMAX) which is currently employed in some parts of the world is the new era of communication. It is approved by IEEE 802.16 group and is the latest technology which is a standard for point-to-multipoint wireless networking. To deliver “last mile” broadband connectivity to home or business locations is the vision of Wimax, also its data rates can be compared with Cable and Digital Subscriber line (DSL) rates. When you are roaming outside home or office, it has the capability which can connect to the ISP (Internet Service Provider). To avert the impending crisis of rural connectivity, the Wimax technology is becoming the way i.e. till the last mile it will be accessible. WiMAX will offer broadband wireless access at data rates of multiple Mbit/s to the end-user and within a range of several kilometers for which we can be thankful to its innovative technology,. With an optimized trade off between throughput and coverage the same radio technology will also offer high-speed data services to all nomadic terminals (laptops, PDAs, etc.). This paper explains about the Wimax, its uses, different versions and its future development.
