摘要:The goal of image contrast enhancement technique is to improve the characteristics or quality of an image, such that the resulting image is better than the original image. One of the most common degradations in medical images is their poor contrast quality. This suggests the use of contrast enhancement methods as an attempt to modify the intensity distribution of the image. In this paper, a new smoothing histogram modification method is proposed to improve the quality of digital medical images. This is done by smoothing the histogram of the input image using the band pass filtering, detecting the spike regions in the histogram and removing them, and then modifying the histogram according to the mapping function to generate the output histogram. Mapping function is obtained from the cumulative density function. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method improved the visibility and perceptibility of various embedded structures in digital medical images. Moreover, the performance of the proposed method is superior to that of other conventional methods
