摘要：A polícia é um objeto de interesse acadêmico bastante recente no campo historiográfico mundial. No Brasil, essa inclinação se mostra ainda mais noviço, em que pese nos últimos vinte anos a produção tenha se mostrado bastante promissora. Com vistas a escrutinar tal movimento, este artigo tem como objetivo fazer um balanço bibliográfico do debate nacional, levantando as questões mais pertinentes e apontando pistas de pesquisa para novas empreitadas.
