  • 摘要:To support performance and vigor of tree species plantations, artificial fertilization using finely-ground limestone was used on mountain, air-polluted sites in the past. This practice proved to be an efficient measure to restore soil properties and improve nutrition of tree species. However, there is the presumption that the effect of spot liming upon plantations is only temporary. The objectives of our study were to compare spot-limed and untreated Carpathian birch and European beech plantations in terms of difference in performance, response of photosynthetic activity using Imaging-PAM chlorophyll fluorometer, and content of nutrients. Limed Carpathian birch showed reduced growth (by 13%) compared to untreated birch. Limed beech grew slightly better for a few years after planting, then growth trends of both treatments remained equal; limed trees were higher by 8% in 2009. Analysis of chlorophyll fluorescence showed higher response of photosystem II (Fv/Fm) for limed beech treatment; we found no difference between birch treatments. The chemical analysis of leaves revealed that birch leaves from limed treatment were higher in P, Ca, Mg, and Si while beech leaves from limed treatment were higher in P only.
