摘要：A symposium organized by McGill University's iSchool students anddirector brought together past, current and future ASIS&T presidentsand board members to discuss trends in information scienceresearch. The discussion revealed diverse opinions on the definitionof information science, concerns about research practices andexpected directions for future research. Definitions of the fieldfocused on social questions in an information society, the intersectionof information and technology and strategies to better connectinformation with users. Panelists exhorted attendees, many beingstudents, to tackle big questions, consider the applications of theirresearch and collaborate with other disciplines. The critical role andstrength of information science should drive robust and compellingresearch, addressing areas of need from the personal to the nationallevel. Specific topics needing investigation include big data,information security, information as a stimulus for creativity, personalinformation management and better integration with technology
