摘要：Gabrielle Suchon wrote, under the pseudonym G. S. Aristophile, what is probably the first lengthyphilosophical work on gender by a woman. Whilst pamphlets by women had previously appeared, mostfamously Marie de Gournay's Egalit¨¦ des hommes et des femmes(1622), Suchon's work sets out toexamine in detail the institutions of marriage and religious confinement and to build a case against themusing authorities both religious and secular.
