摘要：The euphoria that foll owed the el ection of President Barrack Hussein Obama as the first black American president reverberated in most parts of the world. The joy and anxiety that followed his election as the 44thpresident of America allover the world especial ly in Africa, the erstwhile home land of his ancestors knowsno bounds. Obama i s qualified variously as the first world president, a citizen of the world, the peace presidentetc. Thus, his election seems to be different from all other elections i n Ameri ca. In response to this world acclaim f or his election, the Presi dent Obam a has made a promise to change the country (Ameri ca) and change the world. In this promise, he dangles a new approach i n Ameri can foreign policy towards global peaceproj ect. Thi s paper exami nes what the electi on of Obama symbolizes f or the world in terms of inter group relati onsand what lessons hi s declared foreign policy stance holds for resol ution of i nternational and nati onal conf li cts. More restrictively, the paper reviews Nigeria's approach in handl ing some of herfundam ental national conflictual issues and proffers that the Obama approach to global peace project could equall y be very useful in resolving some persistent conflicts that threaten peace andunity in the country
