摘要:Global measles control over the past decade has been verysuccessful. Estimated deaths have fallen by 74% from535300 in 2000 to 139300 in 2010.1While the goal oferadicating global measles transmission has not yet beenformally adopted, five of six World Health Organization(WHO) regions have setdeadlines for elimination of endemicmeasles transmission* (the exception being the South EastAsian Region).2This was achieved in the Americas in 2002and has been maintained since then.3However, after 8 yearsof decline, global case numbers have increased in the past3 years due to substantial outbreaks in Africa and Europe.4In Europe in 2011 there were more than 30 000 cases ofmeasles notified with at least eight deaths.5Significant out-breaks occurred in France (15000 cases), Italy, Spain,Romania and Germany. More than 80% of cases occurredinunvaccinated persons –the mainreasonfor these outbreaksis failure to vaccinate. It is likely that countries with majoroutbreaks will need to consider 'catch-up' programs, as wellas improved primary vaccination coverage with two doses ofmeasles-containing vaccine. In Africa large outbreaks haverecently been experienced in 60% of countries
