摘要：In contrast to school sports and com-munity sports, which are on thedeveloping stage, so-called elite sportshave demonstrated a remarkable recordat the world level over the past twentyyears. These results have been fosteredby successive governments maintain-ing an elite sports oriented policy. Illus-trative of this is the fact that athleteswho win a medal at the internationallevel, such as the Olympics, are assuredof a lifetime pension. The KoreanSports Promotion Law states that ath-letes winning Olympic gold are grant-ed one million Korean won, which isequivalent to approximately USD 800
