摘要:This analysis surveys some basicquantitative trends in interna-tional Indonesian Studies in the1990s. The source material is takenfrom Excerpta Indonesica, the biblio-graphical periodical published twicea year at the KITLV in Leiden (theNetherlands). Excerpta Indonesicaprovides a unique source in that itrenders annotated citations of'almost all'*research contributions(mostly articles) in journals and read-ers published on Indonesia. The dis-ciplines covered are mainly from thehumanities and social sciences, although certain other disciplinesalso appear (geography, medicine,etc.). The claimed scope is worldwide, although certain countries and jour-nals are more favoured than are oth-ers. This is traditionally true for arti-cles published in the Netherlands, since they naturally find their waymore easily into the holdings of theKITLV library, which constitutes thematerial basis forExcerpta Indonesi-ca. The inclusion/exclusion policy ofExcerpta Indonesicais often prob-lematized in the field, since this bib-liographical journal exerts an impor-tant gatekeeping function in thedissemination and, hence, the pro-duction of knowledge in IndonesianStudies. This makes it all the moreinteresting to look at the representa-tion of international IndonesianStudies in this influential journal
