摘要:This paper, as an empirical study, aims to clarify the factors affecting a non-union worker's decision to support unions. In particular, attention is paid to the influence of workers' understanding of their legal rights in supporting unions. This support that is shown from workers1means that they regard unions as a necessity. The estimated union density2in Japan was 19.6% in June 2003, the first time since the start of the survey in 1947 that it fell below 20% (Trade Union Membership Survey, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare). Cited factors behind the drop in union density include a decrease in the number of union members caused by redundancies occurring within unionised companies, and changes in the industrial structure and employment patterns that lower the rate of new union density
