摘要:In this paper, I offer a reconsideration of the question about the relation between pyrrhonism and Academic skepticism in Montaigne’s Essais. I argue that he had taken from the start these two skeptical tendencies as rather similar and even compatible (in spite of important differences he recognizes among them). Montaigne’s evolving interest on Cicero’s Academica, as we can remark along the successive editions of the Essais, brings with it not only a transformation of his own personal skepticism (that he takes to be more and more close to what he finds in Cicero), but also an improvement of his judgment on this question of the relationship between these two philosophies. In conclusion, I discuss briefly on the relations between Montaigne and Cicero in a more general way, from the perspective of these skeptical elements.
