摘要:This study examines the relationship between foreign trade and economic growth in African over a period of 1991 -2011. The study utilized panel data set of 50 African countries tha t comprises all the five regions of the continent. The study documents that export has a positive significant influence on economic growth in Africa while import and foreign exchange rate on the other hand, did not have significant influence on economic growth. The finding revealed that there is bidirectional relationship between export, import and economic growth. However, the study further revealed a unidirectional relationship between GDP growth and foreign exchange rate. On the basis of the finding, the study concludes that exports exert positive influence on African economic growth. The study therefore recommends that African governments should boost export promotion and import substitution strategies, guard against the menace of dumping and deregulate their exchange rate systems in order to achieve higher economic growth
