This study addresses the issue of sustainable development of agroecosystems towards increasing the competitiveness of the agricultural sector through better use of human resources and factors of production and towards fulfilling national and EU standards. The starting point is the general condition of the Romanian agriculture and the need for change which highlights the need to address new directions that will boost production while maintaining the natural resource base by identifying, designing, promoting and implementing solutions, models and methods to enable sustainable development of agriculture and consequently of the rural community.
