摘要:History teaching in primary and secondary levels of the national education system is now challenged, given the disappointing results on the matter, which are evident in the inadequate, decontextualised and fragmented knowledge and bias shown by the majority of students on the main historical processes occurring in venezuelan society over time. Some views on the issue linked these results with the strategies used for classroom teaching, noting the lack of motivation that they generate in the students. The approach of this essay notes that the discussion developed as an urgent attempt to reverse the problem detected is inherently complex and therefore must go beyond the discussion on the strategies chosen as methodological tools for implementation of the teaching-learning process and aim to clarify with clearly the general goal pursued by the teaching of history and kind of history taught in the segments referred to formal education in Venezuela, assuming that the first element -goal- determines the second element: kind of history taught.
