Los mecanismos financieros y la mediatización de los medios de comunicación ha determinado la universalización de formas de vida, en los últimos años de este siglo, que se difunde a través de los centros urbanos. Por todo ello los programas educativos contemplan el hecho urbano como un asunto relevante. Desde la Geografía se ha venido estudiando el mundo de las ciudades desde diversas perspectivas teóricas, que responden a planteamientos ideológicos y epistemológicos concretos. Su estudio y comprensión es fundamental para organizar los contenidos didácticos, expresión de problemas escolares donde al alumnado se le propone un método y unos conceptos para explicar mejor el mundo donde vive.

The financial mechanisms and the important role played by the Mass Media have led, over the last years of the twentieth century, to a uniformity in all forms of life, which has spread throughout urban centers. Educational programmes, therefore, perceive cities as an important theme. The world of the cities has been examined within the field of Geography Studies, from different theoretical perspectives, taking into account concrete ideological and epistemological considerations. The study and understanding of the city is fundamental for the organization of teaching content, as the expression of educational problems, where the students adopt methods and concepts in order to gain a better knowledge of the world in which they live.
