  • 摘要:Water quality is the degree of potability which is determined by the amount and kinds of suspended and dissolved substances in water. Seven water samples are subjected to physico-chemical analysis by standard methods like colour, temperature, turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen and chemical oxygen demand. The microbial isolation was done by streak plate method on nutrient agar and on selective media for their identification. The final identification of resulted isolates was done by their biochemical testing mentioned in accordance to the Bergey’s Manual. The results showed that the temperature was within limits and the water samples were not highly turbid indicating the low amount of suspended solids in water. The drift in pH values was not so high indicating that water from different sampling sites was not much polluted. The low COD value was the indication of lesser amount of water pollution in the sampling sites. The resulted bacterial isolates viz. Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Clostridium tetni, Alcaligenes faecalis, Shigella dysenteriae, Salmonella sp., Micrococcus sp. and E. coli are highly pathogenic. From the above study, it concluded that the unsustainable development in surrounding area could lead in environmental damage by changing the hydrological characteristics.
