The alluvial rise of the evangelical population in Brazil (and in Latin America) constitutes one of the most important phenomena of recent decades. The economic weight of pastors has been growing in parallel with their religious influence, and political weight was added later, which includes various parliamentarians. This chronicle gives an account of the operation of this «theology of abundance» which each Sunday attracts millions of people in all of Brazil, a country that is experiencing profound sociopolitical transformations, and where ultraconservative churches can coexist with churches for gays... or for surfers.
