En Guatemala, pese a que ya no existen violaciones sistemáticas de los derechos humanos, aún persiste la impunidad. Para ello incide la falta de voluntad política del Gobierno y el funcionamiento activo de las estructuras de poder que cometieron los hechos delictivos y las violaciones. Un análisis de la administración de justicia a partir de los procesos judiciales por violaciones a los derechos humanos que actualmente se tramitan, y los principales problemas a los que se tienen que enfrentar las víctimas en el seguimiento de los mismos, indica la complejidad de la situación y los escasos avances dados por la firma de la paz.

In Guatemala, despite the fact that there are no longer systematic violations of human rights, impunity persists. The basic reason is the lack of political will on the part of the government and the activity within the structures of power of those responsible for the criminal acts and violations. An analysis of the administration of justice on the basis of the judicial processes initiated for violations of human rights and the difficulties which the victims face in trying to receive justice, indicate the complexity of the situation and the limited advances since the peace agreement.
