Las elecciones presidenciales argentinas de octubre de 1999 terminaron con 10 años de gobierno peronista. Este resultado, si bien estaba anunciado, trajo también algunas sorpresas y no pocos desafíos. El desequilibrio institucional dentro de la coalición gobernante fue un asunto que el presidente De la Rúa tuvo que atender a pocas horas de ser electo; lo mismo respecto de las seguridades que espera el establishment económico. Mientras tanto, los anhelos civi-les que dieron nombre a la coalición (trabajo, justicia y educación) en breve se convertirán en demandas a la espera de tangibles resultados.

In October 1999, Argentina's presidential elections put an end to ten years of Peronist rule. Although expected, this result was also accompanied by some surprises and not a few challenges. The lack of institutional equilibrium within the governing coalition had to be confronted hours after the election of De la RTa; and the need to reassure the economic establishment was equally pressing. At the same time, the expectations which were incorporated into the slogan of the alliance (Work, Justice and Education) will soon become demands for tangible results.
