Estados Unidos, como potencia neocolonial en decadencia, se enfrenta a una serie de diversos desafíos. La hegemonía cultural y política europea le brinda una preeminencia discursiva con la cual catalogar según su conveniencia las oposiciones que surgen en el Tercer Mundo. Con la actual guerra de Afganistán se afianza todavía más el estamento industrial-militar y solamente un movimiento cívico como el de los años 60 podría ponerle límites democráticos a su accionar imperial.

The United States, as any neocolonial power in decadence, faces a series of challenges. European cultural and political hegemony offer a discursive preeminence that enables it to catalogue the oppositions, which emerge in the Third World according to its convenience. With the current war in Afghanistan, the industrial-military complex is strengthened even further and only a civic movement comparable to that of the 60s could impose democratic limitations on its imperial impulse.
