Las victorias del Partido Revolucionario Dominicano en las elecciones congresionales y municipales de 1998, y presidenciales de 2000, impusieron en República Dominicana un gobierno de mayoría. En este artículo se explora la actual gestión del PRD bajo estas condiciones políticas favorables. El análisis se enfoca en dos temas: el predominio político del PRD y las acciones de gobierno desde su acceso en agosto de 2000. Si bien la mayoría parlamentaria ha servido para apoyar importantes iniciativas legislativas del Ejecutivo, los dos problemas centrales que éste prometió enfrentar -la pobreza y la corrupción- siguen estando vigentes y no se vislumbran avances importantes.

The PRD victories in the 1998 Congress and Municipal elections and in the 2000 Presidential election have provided the government party with a firm majority. This article analyzes the record of the government under these favorable conditions and the role of the party. While the party has used its majority to support important legislative initiatives of the Executive, there have been no real advances in the face of the two central problems which the government promised solve: poverty and corruption.
