La especie humana se ve obligada a enfrentar por vez primera en la historia lo que parece ser una amenaza de escala planetaria (la crisis ecológica), y los diferentes sectores sociales se ven obligados a definirse en torno de esta nueva lucha por la supervivencia. ¿Cuál es el significado de las luchas del campesinado, especialmente las de los indígenas, en esta nueva batalla global?; y ¿cómo ellas se están desarrollando en las áreas rurales de Latinoamérica?

The human species is obliged, for the first time in its history, to confront what appears to be a threat of planetary proportions (the ecological crisis) and the different social sectors have to define their position in the face of this new struggle for survival. What is the significance of the peasant, and particularly the indigenous, struggles in this overall battle? And, how are they developing in Latin America´s rural areas?
