En este breve ensayo, reseñamos algunos de los problemas vinculados con la rendición de cuentas sobre el uso de la fuerza física por parte de la policía venezolana. Junto al problema de las descripciones superficiales, identificamos dos temas adicionales: la escasez relativa de relatos y el diferente peso que se confiere a los mismos según el estatus social de quien los propone. Dichos problemas afectan la responsabilidad por el uso de la fuerza, y deben ser examinados si se pretende evitar violaciones de los derechos humanos por parte de la policía. Un análisis definitivo de esta cuestión requiere de mayor información de la que se encuentra actualmente disponible, ofreciendo buenas posibilidades para la agenda de investigación.

In this brief essay, we review some of theproblems related to accountability for theuse of force by the Venezuelan police.Apart from the problem of superficialdescriptions, the authors identify twoadditional themes: the relative scarcity ofwitness accounts and the differentweight attached to them according to thesocial status of the witness. Theseproblems affect the attribution ofresponsibility for the use of force andneed to be examined if we are to avoidviolations of human rights by the police.Any definitive analysis of the themerequires more information than iscurrently available and offers fertileground for a research agenda.
