Son muchas las lecturas posibles sobre la V Conferencia Ministerial de la Organización Mundial del Comercio, celebrada en Cancún. Para varios gobiernos fue una decepción, para otros una victoria; algunas organizaciones de ciudadanos consideraron el desenlace como un éxito, mientras que otras se alarmaron por la pérdida de un espacio multilateral. América Latina se jugaban mucho en Cancún, pero no consiguió avanzar en temas clave, como el comercio agrícola, y la situación de cara al ALCA se ha complicado mucho más.

There are many ways of interpreting what occurred in the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization recently celebrated in Cancun. For several governments it was a deception, for others a victory. Some civil organizations regarded it as a success, while others expressed their concern for the danger of losing an important multilateral forum. For Latin America, there was a great deal at stake in Cancun but there was no advance in key themes like trade in agricultural products and the problem of the FTAA has become even more complicated.
