El problema de la sociedadchilena es la reconstrucción de una comunidad política nacional que pueda insertarsede manera autónoma en el mundo globalizado. Ello implica plantear un proyecto de modernidad que dé cuenta de la diversidad, la memoria histórica y la subjetividad de personas, grupos y colectividades. Para encararesa tarea, la dividida izquierda debe ampliar su base política construyendo mecanismos y espacios que aseguren la representatividad yla participación ciudadana,algo que obliga a la Concertación a integrar a la esfera parlamentaria e institucional a los sectores de izquierda marginados por el aberrante sistema electoral.

The central problem for Chilean societyin the coming decades is the rebuildingof a national political community capableof inserting itself autonomously within aglobalized world. This implies a projectfor modernity able to embrace thediversity, the historical memory and thesubjectivity of persons, groups andcollectivities. In order to assume thistask, the divided Chilean Left needs tobroaden its political base inventingmechanisms and scenarios thatguarantee representativity and sharedcitizenship as well as to incorporate themarginalized Left excluded from theparliamentary and institutional sphere asa result of the aberrations of the electoralsystem.
