摘要：The social movement in Russia in the field of enlightenment has extended since 1860s. There was bright work of individual enthusiasts and groups of them in various governments. In some cases social activities anticipated the state`s initiative. Thats why the activity of associations, involving of them in the sphere of educational and cultural problems represents particular science interest. The article «The active participation of social associations in enlightenment activity (by the example of Nizhegorodskay government in 1860s - at the beginning of 1900s )» is devoted to enlightenment-oriented associations in Nizhegorodskay government, their methods and forms of activitiy.
