Itupdates and expands upon the surveillancemethodology previously outlined in Measles:Guidelines for the control of outbreaks in Australiawhich was developed by the National Health andMedical Research Council (NHMRC).1TheNHMRC document also containsrecommendations about individual casemanagement and outbreak control, which willrequire revision once the Measles ControlCampaign (MCC) has commenced. However,enhanced measles surveillance is needed assoon as possible, as the first phase of the MCCwill take place between July and October, 1998..Therefore, all jurisdictions should comply asclosely as possible with these guidelines from 1July 1998.
