摘要:How do clinical questions emerge and move towardresolution in the intensive care setting over the courseof 24 hours. In a 20-bed surgical intensive care unit ina large, tertiary-care teaching hospital, informationistsshadowed clinicians for 2 48-hour periods to recordquestions, noting when they were asked and whetherthey were answered. Thirty-eight percent of 112recorded questions remained unanswered. Someunanswered questions persisted across shifts, andclinicians' information-seeking behaviors changedover time. Clinical information services can beimproved and integrated more fully into clinicalworkflows based on a fuller understanding of thelife cycle of clinical inquiry
