摘要:In these days of library schools and library training, many of you will doubtless look upon my remarks as a needless repetition of some of the elements of library technic ;but I should liketocall your attention to certain general principles applicable to such work. Our aim should be to make the resources of the libary fully and clearly available and afford prompt service, but at the lowest possible cost of the library consistent with good service. Large collections of books and pamphlets can have their greatest value only when they are so arranged as to be fully available for the public and put in such shape as to be cared for properlv by the libary staff. No matter how small the librarv, it is well to remember that money, time and labor will always be saved if proper methods of work are adopted in the beginning. The small library of today is the large one of tomorrow.
