摘要:T HE drive for standardization is a hallmark of technology; the need for standardization increases with the growth of technology. Activity toward standardization of bibliographic practices has been stirring throughout the past century, and during the past decade this movement has received added impetus from the advent of mechanization on the publication (secondary publication) scene. Various standards bodies have concerned themselves at organizational, national, and international levels with bibliographical problems such as uniformity of publication methods, journal format, transliteration systems, classification, computer codes, and so forth. It is not surprising that the problem of journal title abbreviation looms prominently.
