摘要：I am wondering if anyone else was as appalled as we were at the enormous size and weight of the 1968 Cumulated Index Medicus. The volumes are almost too heavy to lift; the weight alone will crack the binding before too long. Would it be possible to published CIM in two editions? One, at the current price and current number of volumes; the other, at a higher price with the volumes split. Subscribers could choose between these two basing their choice on frequency of use or size of budget. Several standard textbooks are being published this way now. A split volume edition would also allow more people to use the index at one time since smaller portions of it would be in each volume. I don't suppose we can expect the volumes of CIM to last forever, but unless something is done soon their life expectancy will be shortened considerably.
