摘要:The authors have developed a systematic approach to medical terminology that could make the process of learning the language of medicine almost easy. Three steps are suggested. Step one consists of breaking terms into their roots, suffixes, and prefixes. The study of words by dissection is sound, because it reduces unwieldy terms to more manageable parts and it also begins to shatter some of the verbal mystery that can overwhelm a newcomer to the health field. The first chapters discuss briefly and illustrate profusely, through examples, the structure of medical terms. Implicit in this step is the student's reconciliation with the fact that medical vocabulary is difficult; medical terms are hard to spell, hard to read, and hard to pronounce. This is so because much of the terminology is based on either Greek or Latin. Once he can recognize word parts, the student is ready to learn medical terminology and to accept it as a tool for his work.
