摘要:I came away from the 1978 MLA Annual Meeting in Chicago with mixed feelings about the program. This was not unusual, for after attending annual meetings for ten years, I recognized the pattern of my reactions. Some sessions were stimulating as well as useful, challenging the mind and stirring the audience to thought and action. Others lacked quality and failed to generate much interest. A seat near the exit or the darkness of a slide projection afforded an opportunity to escape unobtrusively.
