摘要：On April 6, 1979, the Elections Committee, with the assistance of six members and MLA Headquarters staff, tallied the results of the balloting for president-elect, the board of directors, and the Nominating Committee. An unprecedented 55% of the members returned their ballots. A number of questions have been raised about the high return. In an attempt to answer these questions, an analysis was made of the members who voted. The analysis was based on the printout of members, which was marked as each envelope containing a ballot was received. There was no way to analyze how an individual voted, only if he or she did vote (Table 1). The lower percentage of voters among the members who reside outside the United States was not particularly surprising, since it is more difficult for these members to be involved in association activities. It is interesting that in the states with 200 or more members, an average of 51% voted. In states with 30 or less members, 60% voted.
