摘要:Hog farmers continue to expand despite weak net returns. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's June 1 inventory estimates show that the number of hogs and pigs on U.S. farms reached an 11-year high of 59.3 million head. This represents an increase of 5 percent over last year and an increase of 10 percent from two years ago. The size of the breeding herd posted only a slight increase, providing evidence that the pace of expansion is slowing. Nevertheless, the USDA's latest numbers imply pork production will register year-over-year gains at least through the first half of 1993.
