  • 摘要:The U.S. ostrich industry has been in the breeder market stage for the past seven to nine years and only recently has begun to move to the slaughter market stage (Spencer 1995). The breeder market has expanded domestic ostrich numbers to an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 birds, although no official census has been taken. The primary market for ostrich over the last nine years in the United States has been other producers interested in raising ostrich. During 1993, the quantity demanded for breeders peaked and has now downturned with an increase in quantity demanded for slaughter products in the U.S., including red meat and leather (Lakey 1995). In other words, the breeder market has reached maturity while the slaughter market is in its infancy.
