摘要:ICARDA (the International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas) in Syria conducts research aimed at developing countries. Australian agriculture has received spillover benefits from that research. This paper reports on a study that aims to quantify the benefits of the spillover impact on Australian agriculture from ICARDA's research into kabuli chickpeas. Australian producers gain from the improved genetic materials obtained from ICARDA, but face lower prices from the success of ICARDA in other countries. The net spillover benefits for Australia are identified, and the implications of such benefits are discussed.
