摘要：The story of how A. Montgomery Ward impacted the lake front of Lake Michigan by winning four court cases in the Illinois Supreme Court, all based on the same theory: Ward argued, and the Supreme Court accepted, that Ward had a right to an unobstructed view of the lake based on his private right of ownership in land on Michigan Avenue. As a result of these cases, Ward established open space alongside the lake, prevented the City of Chicago from enacting armories within that open space, stopped construction of the Field Museum in Grant Park, and prevented the City from condemning the land Ward owned in Grant Park. As one of the first Chicagoans who fought for conservation of open space, Ward is praised by Professor Dunham.
