摘要:Morphological quality of the above-ground part of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) transplants was assessed eight years after planting on a drought-prone site rich in nutrients. Three plots of different initial density of the young plantations were compared: 10,000–11,100 pcs/ha, 7,700–8,300 pcs/ha and 6,250–6,700 pcs/ha. We ascertained the effect of the plantation density on the stem diameter, number of branches, their diameter and length, count of needle age classes and their length. The tested density of trees did not affect stand height, crown-setting height and setting height of the largest-diameter branches. The highest density plantation (10,000–11,100 pcs/ha) showed signs of more severe competition among the trees (smaller stem diameter, shorter needles, more expeditious self-pruning of the stem). The higher the stand density, the better was the morphological quality of trees. Pine trees in the plantations of higher densities exhibited finer branching (lower number of branches, which were shorter and thinner) and more expeditious self-pruning of stems (lower number of branches, lower diameter of branches and lower count of needle age classes in the lower part of the crown). As to the above-ground part quality of trees, the density of Scots pine suiting best this site appears to be 10,000–11,100 pcs/ha.
