摘要:While there is a substantial literature exploring the causes and the extent of low wage employment, less is known about the residence of low wage earners. Geocoded data allow for the illustration and the analysis of the spatial dispersion of their residence for the first time, thus enabling comprehensive urban comparisons. The authors use several German major cities as examples to show patterns with regard to how low wage earners are dispersed within a city. Berlin and Hamburg as well as Frankfurt and Leipzig are among the cities with the highest levels of spatial segregation. A visual comparison also reveals some interesting differences between Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. While Berlin shows large areas with a high share of low wage earners, Munich's low wage earners are least concentrated.
