摘要：Despite enormous advances in society and technology, millions of people have their identities stolen. Sensitive information is gathered through low-tech methods of physically acquiring it, as well as hi-tech methods that use various technologies to capture an individual's information. Yet, there are various tools and ways of preventing identity theft that is accessible to the everyday consumer, who either are ignorant of them or just cannot be bothered. This paper discusses ways that identity theft is carried out and ways to protect oneself. Additionally, a survey conducted by the authors revealed that many are not taking appropriate steps to protect themselves from this egregious crime.
