摘要：In a much quoted passage from his "Sketch for a Marxist Interpretation of Literature ," Edward Upward made the following provocatively prescriptive statem ent about the kind of committed writing that was needed to meet the political challenges of the 1930s: Yet literary criticism which aims at being Marxist must begin by recognising that literature does reflect social and economic conditions, and must proc laim that no book written at the present time can be 'good' unless it is written from a Marxist or near - Marxist viewpoint.
