摘要:On the Horn of Africa, the great diversity of natural environments and their evolution over the last ten millennia led to the development of a large number of human societies. These societies exploited the rich resources in this region by optimizing the specific potential of each environment and its variations. The adoption and development of agriculture and animal husbandry during the last five millennia radically transformed the relationships between humans and their environment, diminishing the role of wild resources in the diet. Archaeological excavations and historic research over the past fifteen years have contributed new data relevant to these questions. The aim of our study, combining along-term zooarchaeological analysis and a shorter-term historic analysis of the role of fish and game in Ethiopia since the Middle Ages, is to tell the story of this remarkable economic and cultural transformation through two voices. This interdisciplinary dialogue sheds light on regional trends in the relationships between humans and the wild environment and their evolution through time.
