摘要:Although suicide attempts indicate social and economic level of the communities, they continue to be an important problem for public health because of resulting with disability and death. Suicide attempts are considered to be one of the most important risks for recurrent suicide attempts. In our study, to investigate sociodemographic characteristics of the cases who have referred to Emergency Room of Dicle University, Faculty of Medicine because of suicide attempt between 2011 and 2012 and to determine the risk groups in order to prevent recurrence were aimed. It was detected that cases who have attempted suicide repeatedly included 11 males (30.6%) and 25 females (69.4%) and their minimum age was 11 years whereas the maximum age was 53 years (mean 26.6±9.6). Majority of the cases (47.2%) were between 15 and 24 years old and single (62%); 61.1% of the cases had depression history. In 94.4% of the cases have used drug and/or toxic agent, 2.8% hanging and 2.8% have used sharp objects at the last suicide attempts of the cases. In our study it was detected that being young and single, presence of a psychiatric disease history such as depression were associated factors and the most common method for suicide attempts were use of drugs and/or toxic agent.
