摘要:Major incidents are chaotic situations that may occasionally have an impact on large masses of people and may interrupt the routine activities of normal conditions by creating a gener- al sense of fear in society. Depending on how seri- ous an incident is, its impact may be observed on institutional, regional, national or sometimes even international scales. Major incident management consists of stages such as preparation, intervention, recovery and hazard reduction. In this cycle, the preparation stage represents the most significant variable affecting subsequent variables. In cases of major radiation incidents, health administration is also one of the most essential elements of interven- tion of all stages (2). The aim of this study is to examine the preparation and intervention stages of health administration at institutional and unit lev- els concerning major radiation incidents. Planning, training, drills and evaluation constitute the basic elements of the preparation stage. Well- preparedness and organized intervention are keys to success. Therefore, institutions should be well prepared beforehand concerning radiation emer- gencies and have an action plan together with equipment and trained staff. Moreover, all prepa- ration measures should be practiced by drills and the action plan should be followed in case of an incident.
